MANSFIELD Police are looking for witnesses in the cases of two young women who were killed while crossing major highways on foot in separate incidents in the past week police said.
Monday evening, Candace L. Puckett, 26, of Westampton, died of multiple blunt force injuries after being struck trying to cross the northbound lanes of Route 130, according to police.
Police and emergency medical teams from Florence, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton and Medic 34 responded to the area of mile post 53 on Route 130 at 10:20 p.m.
Police withheld information about the driver, a Bordentown resident.
In a similar incident early Friday morning, Arlee M. Toto, 27, of Columbus, was struck and killed while crossing Route 206, police said.
Police and the Mansfield Township Emergency Medical Service responded to that scene at mile post 30 at 2:34 a.m. where a witness said Ms. Toto was walking south in a southbound lane when she was hit, according to a police report.
Police did not release details about the driver, a Tabernacle resident.
A witness at the scene also told police several other vehicles were in the area at the time of the accident, and police say there may be additional witnesses in the Route 206 case as well as the Route 130 incident.
Anyone with information on either accident is asked to call Mansfield police at 609-298-4411.
