Five new officers  join ranks of Old Bridge Police Department

Law Enforcement Officers around the state of New Jersey gathered for Blue Mass at the Diocese of Metuchen on Oct 12.

OLD BRIDGE – Five new officers have joined the ranks of the Old Bridge Police Department (OBPD).

Mayor Owen Henry and Police Chief William Volkert introduced the promoted officers at a Township Council meeting in July.

“The new officers are beginning their career in law enforcement and are equally committed to the future of our town,” the mayor said.

The new officers include Jake Cannillo, Marc DeMaio, Daniel Grecco, Brian Rieker and Zackary Pittius.

Cannillo was sworn into the OBPD on Dec. 19, 2018. He graduated from the Cape May Police Academy. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. Prior to joining the OBPD, Cannillo served as a Monmouth County Sheriff’s officer.

DeMaio was sworn into the OBPD on Dec. 19, 2018. In May 2018, he graduated from the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. He is in the process of obtaining an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Prior to joining the OBPD, DeMaio served in the U.S. Navy from 2013-17.

Grecco was sworn into the OBPD on Dec. 24, 2018. He graduated from the Cape May Police Academy. He earned an associates of arts degree from Central Texas College and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a military police officer.

Rieker was sworn into the OBPD on Feb. 4. He graduated from the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from La Salle University in Philadelphia.

Henry said Pittius could not attend the meeting due to his duties as a U.S. Marine Corps reservist. Pittius was sworn into the OBPD on Dec. 19, 2018. He graduated from the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. He earned an associate’s degree in political science from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.
