Joan’s Reach to host annual chili cook-off at Freehold VFW

Joan’s Reach will host its eighth annual chili cook-off fundraiser from 2-6 p.m. Oct. 12 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4374, 50 Waterworks Road, Freehold. Proceeds from the event will benefit Joan’s Reach, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $30 per adult and $5 per child (ages 4 to 12), or $60 per family (parents and immediate children), with discounts available if purchased online by Oct. 1, according to a press release.

For information about how to purchase tickets, sponsor the event, or enter the chili cook-off contest, visit www.joansreach.org

The cook-off will feature original chili dishes, beverages, and a variety of grilled and picnic food. While enjoying a buffet, guests will vote on their favorite chili and try their luck at various prizes.

Joan’s Reach is entering its eighth year of raising awareness for perinatal hospice care and

providing resources and support for families continuing a pregnancy with a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis, according to the press release.

With funds raised, Joan’s Reach supports local hospitals’ perinatal palliative care

programs and provides families and healthcare providers with care packages to inform and

comfort parents who are informed their baby’s life will be limited, according to the press release.

“As prenatal testing advances, more parents find themselves in this heartbreaking situation

during their pregnancy – knowing their baby’s life will be brief,” said Joan’s mom, Barbara Keith.

“Since we know firsthand how important compassionate support is during such a challenging time, we are committed to ensuring that every family is offered the option of perinatal palliative care when faced with a life-limiting diagnosis for their unborn child, with supportive resources to assist them.

“Though Joan’s life was brief, we hope to carry on our daughter’s legacy so Joan’s Reach may guide other families, as it did us,” she said.

PRAYER TO

ST. JUDE

Most Holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost Despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost Despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the Consolation and help of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly () and that I may Praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to greatly encourage Devotion to you Amen.
