Edison youngster injured in fall from window

EDISON – An awning broke the fall of a 4-year-old boy who accidentally tumbled from a second floor bedroom window at his family’s home in the Clara Barton section of Edison.

The youngster sustained what were described as minor injuries to a leg and his ribs, according to police. The incident occurred at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 7.

“This toddler apparently landed on a first floor window awning. It broke his fall, then he rolled off the awning and onto the lawn in his backyard,” police Lt. Robert Dudash said. “Instead of falling onto a concrete walkway or patio, the child fell on grass and thankfully he was not seriously injured.”

The youngster was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, to be treated for a swollen leg and ankle, bruised ribs, and a bump on his head, police said.

The boy’s parents were not home at the time of the incident, but his older brothers, ages 21 and 10, were. Police said no criminal charges are pending in connection with the mishap.
