  Did primary fight hurt Dems chances?
   There was a quiet coup, of sorts, Friday night at Manville High School, when the school crowned new Homecoming royalty with last year’s king and queen present.
   Although the Board of Education approved Superintendent Johanna Ruberto’s goals for the 2009-2010 school year during its last meeting, she said work on the goals began long before the official vote.
   Manville High School and Roosevelt School students lined Brooks Boulevard during the morning of Oct. 29, cheering and pumping their fists as the high school marching band, cheerleaders and football team marched from one school to the next.
   Operation Shoebox is hosting their fifth annual Christmas packing and Santa’s workshop and is need of supplies and volunteers. The packing will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2290 on Washington Avenue in Manville.
   About 11 cars were found painted, keyed or both Oct. 31 with police believing all but one of the incidents are related.
   At 4:38 p.m. Oct. 26, police reported receiving a call from Walmart security reporting the theft of money from a purse. Security personnel reported an anonymous patron picked up the purse from an unattended shopping cart in the North Main Street store’s parking lot. Upon picking up her purse from the lost and found, the owner reported $180 missing.

   With just over 50 percent of Manville registered voters casting ballots, Republicans Sherri Lynn and Richard Onderko easily won election to the Manville Borough Council.

   During the Oct. 21 annual installation ceremony for new members and officials of the Manville High School Chapter 3985 of the Future Business Leaders of America, school Vice Principal John Grebeck welcomed the students by noting the club’s legacy.
   Voter registration continued to increase this year, albeit by a small percentage, as residents are preparing to elect fresh faces in to the two open seats on the Borough Council.
   The eighth annual Foodfest of Manville, scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Washington Avenue, has a theme appropriate for this recession year: Giving Thanks.
   Residents and patrons are beginning to flock to businesses around town for a chance to pick up what will become Manville’s newest one-stop resource for contact information and advertising.
   Michael Gentile, 27, of Kennedy Boulevard, was charged with criminal mischief and harassment at 12:17 p.m. Oct. 18, for allegedly damaging a Huff Avenue resident’s mailbox, fence and vehicle.
   There are still some spots open for Manville’s two H1N1 vaccination clinics scheduled for November and December for qualifying residents.
   All of the district’s policies are up to date with state requirements, following a summer-long policy revision and the Board of Education’s approval of the updates.
   Families at Weston School celebrated United Nations Day last week with a dinner sponsored by the Weston PTA. The dinner brought families of different ethnic nationalities together for an evening dinner.

   It can rain on Manville High School’s parade, but the school will just reschedule it —Manville High School’s first homecoming parade, initially scheduled for this morning (Tuesday), will occur Thursday since inclement weather postponed it.

POLITICS: Democratic officials ponder life with a GOP governor

" I don't expect Democratic municipal officials to be happy but I would prefer they not be stupid. For the good of their towns --not to mention the state-- they need a cooperative relationship with this governor. As for Democratic state legislators-- they barely cooperated with a Democratic governor so I'm not holding my breath. "

" The corruption is pandemic in the State of NJ. One can hope iwith new LT Gov who is a sheriff and new Attorney General rather then the corrupt Jon Corzine and Anne MIlgram who did NOT enforce NJ criminal codes against corrupt officials that things can only improve. "
