Throughout Hopewell Valley residents recognized and honored fallen service members of America’s armed forces on Memorial Day.
Residents and visitors in Hopewell Township, Pennington, and Hopewell Borough gathered for ceremonies and parades on May 24, May 25, and May 26.
Memorial Day, which took place on May 26, is a federal holiday held on the last Monday in May to honor and commemorate the men and women who died while serving in America’s armed forces.
The holiday was originally called Decoration Day and occurred in the years after the Civil War.
In Hopewell Township, the Hopewell Valley Veterans Association held its annual Memorial Day Ceremony inside Woolsey Park at Veterans Memorial on May 24.





In Pennington, the Pennington Memorial Day parade on Main Street was organized by the Pennington Parks & Recreation Committee and took place on May 26. In addition to the parade, the day featured a wreath laying ceremony, the Bike Brigade and a concert at Howe Commons.

Hopewell Valley Veterans Association holds annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Hopewell Township’s Woolsey Park.
In Hopewell Borough, the Hopewell Borough Memorial Day Parade occurred on May 25 and went along Broad Street to Princeton Avenue. A closing ceremony was held at Hopewell Elementary School.
