Each year, the Hillsborough community comes together to honor the service and sacrifice of Hillsborough veterans and Active Duty personnel during the Annual Salute to Military Service Breakfast, Memorial Day Parade, and Garden of Honor Commemoration Program.
The breakfast was held on May 24 followed by a parade. The Garden of Honor ceremony immediately followed the parade.
On Memorial Day, members of the Hillsborough Policemen Benevolent Association Local 205 and attendees gathered for the inaugural Paws in the Park 3K Run/Walk at Woodfield Park to support Project K9 Hero, a nonprofit organization that cares for retired Police K-9 and Military Working Dog Heroes with medical care, rehabilitation, and death benefit assistance.

Memorial Day, initially referred to as Decoration Day, was observed by many communities after the Civil War, when the nation suffered more than 620,000 military deaths, roughly 2% of the total population at the time. Today Memorial Day is now designated as an annual day of remembrance to honor all those who have died in service to the United States during peach and war, according to National Archives.
