Trader Joe’s is opening a new store in Woodbridge, New Jersey, and it will be located on Route 1 southbound, across from Woodbridge Center, in the space that used to be Bed Bath & Beyond.
This will be Trader Joe’s 20th store in the state, and Mayor John McCormac announced that Woodbridge had worked to bring the store to the town, winning over nearby towns that also wanted a Trader Joe’s.
There is no official opening date yet, but when the store opens, it will be the fourth Trader Joe’s in Central Jersey, joining existing stores in Bridgewater, Westfield, and North Brunswick.
The new location will save time and make shopping more convenient for people living in or near Woodbridge. Many residents have been driving 20 to 30 minutes to visit other Trader Joe’s stores, and now they will have one closer to home.
Trader Joe’s is known for its store-brand items not sold anywhere else, with popular products including Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups, Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend, frozen kimbap, and fresh flowers.
Their Charles Shaw wine, called “Two-Buck Chuck,” is also well known because it used to cost $1.99, and even though the price has gone up, people still call it by that name.
The store is also known for its friendly staff and good service. Reviews on Glassdoor show that Trader Joe’s offers strong pay and good benefits, which helps create a positive work environment that customers notice.
In fact, Trader Joe’s tied with Publix for the top spot in the American Customer Satisfaction Index, so shoppers must be very happy with their experience at the store.
Trader Joe’s listens to customer requests, and one person on Reddit said they suggested a location in their town last year, and now a store is opening in Woodbridge.
It’s not clear if the request helped, but it shows that people are eager for more Trader Joe’s stores, and the company pays attention to areas with strong demand.
The opening also highlights how shopping centers are changing, as Bed Bath & Beyond used to be a major store but closed many locations, including the one in Woodbridge.
Other stores that have closed in New Jersey include Linens N Things, Disney Store, Warner Bros. Studio Store, Suncoast Motion Picture Company, Radio Shack, Sam Goody, Fortunoff, The Sharper Image, The Wall, Stern’s, Brookstone, Strawbridge’s, and Merry Go Round.
Now, with Trader Joe’s taking over the empty Bed Bath & Beyond space, the area will get a new life, and Trader Joe’s, which has over 500 stores across 43 states, is using this location as part of the company’s growth while meeting demand from local shoppers.
